Medical Imaging

Medical imaging involves the use of technology to take images of the inside of the human body, which are used in diagnostics, as teaching tools, and in routine healthcare for a variety of conditions. Medical imaging is sometimes referred to as diagnostic imaging, because it is frequently used to help doctors arrive at a diagnosis. An imaging study can be used to identify unusual things inside the body, such as tumors, broken bones, and leaking blood vessels. X-rays, CTs and ultrasounds are the most common types of medical imaging.

A medical imaging center is a facility with the equipment to produce various types of radiologic and electromagnetic images and a professional staff to interpret the images obtained. Medical imaging designates the set of techniques that noninvasively produces images of an internal area of the body. The term “noninvasive” means the procedure does not introduce an instrument into a patient's body.

Medical imaging is done for clinical purposes (medical procedures seeking to reveal, diagnose, or examine disease) or medical science (including the study of normal anatomy and physiology).
